We're off to Beijing for about a week tomorrow. We really wanted to go to Haerbin, to the ice festival. It's in China but 'borders' Russia. (It's still a 12 hour train to Russia!) but we couldn't get tickets from Shanghai to there. But we're just glad to get out of Shanghai for a bit of a holiday! We might be able to get a train once we're in Beijing so we'll see. Isabelle's been in Hong Kong for a few days but she's coming back tonight! It's also Adam Graham's 21st today (another Leeds Shanghaier) so we're going to the Chalet, a nice cosy bar for a bit of dinner and happy hour all night. Here's a couple pics of unrelated pictures:
My new Totoro slippers :D
Every day we have a beautiful sunset and the sun streams though our apartment and makes it all orange.

An evil plan was hatched by our friend Jacob for his boyfriend Ben's birthday on the 15th Jan. His idea was to create a fake birthday at an awful (and well known for being awful) pizza place, then make all ben's friends cancel for it. Then, have a surprise party at an amazing Japanese all-you-can eat restaurant. Poor Ben. It was horrible having to cancel, and Ben being the sweetest and loveliest person in the planet, just text me back when I pretended to be teaching saying, "That's alright, I understand. Ben xx" AS IF!! But we all managed to keep it a secret from Ben and one of his friends Wallace, managed to find some 'time' and took Ben around for the day for a spot of food and company. Even Ben's bf Jacob had to cancel on him for an important 'job interview'. To lure Ben to the chosen restaurant where we were sneakily (and hungrily) waiting, Wallace had to pretend he had a hot date waiting there. I just have to say that the moment Ben came into the room of the restaurant, will be one of the moments of Shanghai that I will never forget. What a fun night! This was all-you-can-eat-and-drink, so much sake shots and sake bombs (sake game with beer) were drank until we headed to a club to dance the night away.

So one of my dear friends I met in China in 2009 came to stay on the 30 Dec, so we could see each other both on 2010 and 2011! We did some cool touristy things, like going to the propganda poster museum, (which was facinating), and some other average things, like going to Shelter (the old underground bomb shelter club) and ordering Mcdonalds delivery on the last day of 2010! So basically, we had some good times, and it was sad to see her go. But I know we'll be friends for life.
